Gates Title

Corrosion-Resistant Weir Gates, Slide Gates, Stop Gates, and Flap Gates made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP)

High strength, quality fiberglass gates and guides made to close tolerances and to stringent design specifications. Many major industrial companies regularly come to Plasti-Fab for design and construction of specialty fiberglass gates. If your project requires gates, consider the many advantages of fiberglass gates and utilize the experience of Plasti-Fab in application and design of FRP gates and guides.

Unique Plasti-Fab Gate Design Features

Long Life - Low Maintenance
Plasti-Fab Fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) gates and guides are virtually maintenance free. They resist corrosion and never need painting.

Light Weight - High Strength
FRP is well known for its high strength-to-weight ratio. This light weight feature is advantageous during installation and operation, especially noticable with hand pull stop plates.

Smooth Operation - Low Friction
FRP guides and gates have a low coefficient of friction. Most of all, FRP guide frames do not gall or get rough due to friction or chemical attack.

Molded Construction - Superior Design
All Plasti-Fab gates are molded to the exact size required. Molding results in gates with no exposed fibers or cut edges. Molded gates are flat and smooth. Rigid high density polyisocyanurate foam is molded into the gate forming a totally encapsulated structural sandwich to produce a gate with the design strength required.

Easy Installation
Plasti-Fab gates and guides are factory assembled with rigid corners. Gates and guides are assembled and tested at the factory and shipped ready to install. Surface gate guides simply fasten to the face of theconcrete using anchor bolts. Embedded guides can be installed during channel construction or grouted into a blocked out slot in the channel.

Heavy Dute Titeseal Copolymer Slide GateHeavy Dute Titeseal Copolymer Slide Gates

Heavy Duty Titeseal® Copolymer Slide Gates

The Heavy Duty Titeseal Copolymer Slide Gate is a non-metallic, corrosion resistant gate that provides the engineer with a superior alternative to stainless steel and cast iron slide gates, often called sluice gates. It is designed to handle high head applications of 10 feet or more in seating or unseating service. The guide includes a top closure bar that allows the gate to seal around all four sides. A wedging bar and adjustable wedging bolts allow the leakage rate to be adjusted to the lowest possible levels. Cast-in wall thimbles are not required.

The molded fiberglass gate cover totally encapsulates an internal steel structural matrix, and has no seams, joints or cut edges. The result is a lightweight gate that has excellent corrosion resistance and can be designed to handle aggressive flow stream conditions and higher applied heads.

Features

  • For Seating and Unseating Heads from 5 to 60 ft.
  • Very Low Leakage
  • Lightweight
  • Superior Corrosion Resistance
  • Built to Any Size - See Gate Chart
  • Simple to Install

Wedging Titeseal® Slide Gates

The Wedging Titeseal® Slide Gate is commonly used as an emergency shutoff gate. Developed and patented by John Vitas at Plasti-Fab, it is the tightest sealing slide gate available on the market today. The Wedging Titeseal® design is capable of reaching extremely low leakage rates: less than 100 cc/min/foot of wetted perimeter. This is 4 to 5 times lower leakage than permitted by AWWA C-501, and applies to both seating and unseating heads. In actual practice, the Wedging Titeseal Gates have been adjusted to the point of being nearly drip-tite. To avoid spillover, the size and placement of the gate must accomodate the highest expected containment level.

Features:

  • Seal off open channels where head will not exceed the top of the gate.
  • Extremely Low Leakage for seating and unseating heads
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • Custom sizes - See Slide Gate Chart
  • Best Available Technology - emergency shut-off, spill containment or isolation

Valve Pic Downward Opening Weir Gates

The function of a down-opening weir gate is to control the upstream water level, and/or pace the amount of discharge from a water system. At times there will be a level control sensor in the system which is directly connected - controlling a modulating electric operator to automatically pace the amount of flow discharged and/or maintain a constant upstream water depth.

Depending on the size of the weir opening and the heads involved, the downward opening weir gate can be constructed as a sandwich style gate, a one-inch solid FRP gate, or as a Heavy Duty Titeseal gate. If possible, weir gates should be installed to operate with a seating head to obtain the best leakage performance. However, they can also be designed for unseating heads as well.

Slide Gates

Slide gates are commonly used in open channel and moderate head applications to isolate equipment, divert flow, close off a wall opening, or cover a pipe that is flush with the wall. Plasti-Fab slide gates are manufactured of gray fiberglass reinforce plastic containing ultraviolet inhibitors. The gates are reinforced to withstand the specified maximum operating head. Where required neoprene j-seals can be included to meet low leakage rates. The frames are constructed from Plasti-Fab designed FRP pultrusions with polymeric fiber surfacing material and UV inhibitors for high corrosion resistance.

The stem and mounting hardware is normally stainless steel and is mechanically operated using a handwheel, crank, electric or pneumatically operated lift. Lifts may be mounted on the head rails of a self-contained gate or on a pedestal or bench stand if the gate is not self-contained. This makes it easier to operate larger gates, gates that are located some distance below the operating surface, or that need to be cycled more frequently.

Features:

  • Moderate seating and unseating heads from 1 to 25 ft.
  • Light weight
  • Low leakage
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • Built to any size - See Gate Chart

Hand Lift Stop Gates
Also called Stop Plates or Stop Gates

Stop Gate and Stop Plate are interchangeable terms used to identify manually lifted gates that are installed in open channels. Stop gates are normally either in or out and do not include a stem or lifting mechanism. Smaller gates or gates with a balance (equalized) head can usually be raised by hand. Larger gates and gates with unbalanced head often require a mechanical lifting device such as a hoist or davit crane.

Plasti-Fab stop gates are individually molded using fiberglass reinforced polyester resin containing UV inhibitors to the exact size required for each application. Most gates utilize a sandwich construction with a closed-cell polyisocyanurate foam core for high strength and corrosion resistance. A totally encapsulate internal steel structural matrix is often used to meet deflection requirements for larger gates. The frames are constructed from Plasti-Fab designed FRP pultrusions with polymeric fiber surfacing material and UV inhibitors for high corrosion resistance. Guides may be embedded, surface mounted or in-channel mounted.

Valve Pic Flap Gates

The Plasti-Fab flexible rubber Flap Gate is the answer for applications requiring corrosion resistant equipment suitable for sea water and most low pH water. Simple construction and light weight make installation and maintenance easy.

The molded body of reinforced copolymer has a 125 lb. pattern flange and a molded neoprene flap which also acts as a hinge. The flexible flap with molded-in weight reduces the possibility of pounding which is often a problem on valves having metal to metal seats.

Body flanges can be drilled to accept standard bolt sizes when connecting to pipe flanges or can be drilled for smaller bolts when they are to be fastened directly to wall surfaces.
